Rockcastle star named McDonald’s All-American
Sara Hammond of Rockcastle County has been named a McDonald’s All-American, becoming the first girl from Kentucky and the first 12th Region player of either gender to win a spot on the nation’s premier high school all-star team.
The 6-2 Hammond, who signed with Louisville last fall, will play in the McDonald’s All American girls game March 30 in Chicago. She is the first McDonald’s All-American from Kentucky since Scotty Hopson of University Heights, who now plays for Tennessee, was selected in 2008.
Hammond, who is also expected to be named Kentucky’s Miss Basketball after the season, s averaging 15.5 points and 12.2 rebounds for Rockcastle, which is 23-1 and ranked No. 2 in the state.
