Got to be right sometime, right?
In each of the past two years, I have offered predictions at the start of the postseason as to which teams would win the boys and girls 12th Region titles. And in each of the past two years, I got both of them wrong.
But I’m willing to try again as another basketball postseason begins tonight, just to show that I don’t give up easily. Columns that appeared in Sunday’s Advocate by colleague Hal Morris and myself detailed our predictions for the regional champions, so I won’t rehash all of the details here. Just click the links to read Morris’ column on the girls and my column on the boys.
Suffice to say that I picked the Wayne County boys, who were also my choice in the preseason, to emerge from what could looks to be a wide-open tournament. Morris said Rockcastle County is the clear favorite on the girls side, and I agree whole-heartedly.
First come the district tournaments, however, so here are my picks for the teams that will fill out the regional fields next week:
Boys
- 45th District: 1. Lincoln County; 2. Danville.
- 46th District: 1. Mercer County; 2. East Jessamine.
- 47th District: 1. Pulaski County; 2. Casey County.
- 48th District: 1. Wayne County; 2. McCreary Central.
Girls
- 45th District: 1. Lincoln County; 2. Danville.
- 46th District: 1. Mercer County; 2. East Jessamine.
- 47th District: 1. Rockcastle County; 2. Casey County.
- 48th District: 1. Southwestern; 2. Wayne County.

No faith in the Lady Lions or Lady Bulldogs. Down two predictions already. Sad day in Cardinal Nation – Wainwright probably out for the year

The only surprise should be that I’ve only missed two.
