Mercer player, coach at all-star tryouts
Mercer County’s basketball teams are well represented at this weekend’s tryouts for the Kentucky All-Stars. Clay Cinnamon is among the boys participating in the tryouts, and Chris Souder is part of the coaching staff for the girls team.
Cinnamon is one of 47 players invited to the tryouts for the boys team, which will be coached by longtime Anderson County coach Glen Drury. Cinnamon is the only 12th Region player invited other than Gavin Dunagan of Wayne County, who received an automatic invitation as the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches’ regional player of the year.
Souder is one of two assistants on the staff of Kentucky girls coach Chris Stallings of Bullitt East, which could put the Mercer girls coach in line to coach the team in the future. Three 12th Region girls were invited to the tryouts: Kayla Bowlin of Wayne, Danay Fothergill of Southwestern and Angie Lawrence of Rockcastle County. Kentucky’s Miss Basketball, Sara Hammond of Rockcastle, is already assured a roster spot.
Tryouts began today and conclude Saturday at duPont Manual for the teams that will represent the state in the annual Kentucky-Indiana all-star series. The all-star games will be played June 10 in Louisville and June 11 in Indianapolis.
