Boys, girls 15th Region soccer semifinals postponed

The boys and girls 15th Region soccer tournaments were postponed tonight due to thunderstorms, and semifinal games in both tournaments have been pushed back to Thursday.

The Mercer County and Lincoln County boys teams were pulled off the field during warmups at Danville’s Reynolds Field when officials spotted lightning in the distance, and Danville officials called the two scheduled games after a delay of about 45 minutes as lightning and rain moved in.

The delay was not so long in the girls tournament at Somerset’s Clara Morrow Field, but the result was the same as the games were called before the Mercer-Somerset game began.

The forecast for Wednesday is for continued rain, colder temperatures and high winds, but no games will be played today.

Both tournaments will now begin on Thursday, with games at the same time they were scheduled for Tuesday. The championships in both tournaments will be Saturday, with both games starting at 7 p.m.
