Wayne girls basketball coach resigns
Tim Pyles, who has been Wayne County’s girls basketball coach for almost 10 years, has resigned six games into the season.
Pyles’ sudden resignation was announced in a news release from the Wayne County school district, which gave no reason for his decision and which also said that Allen Burchett, an assistant with the Wayne boys team since 1998, has been named the Lady Cardinals’ interim coach.
Pyles is 202-95 in parts of 11 seasons at Wayne — he took over in January 2002. His teams won 12th Region championships in 2002, ’04 and ’07. The Lady Cardinals are 1-5 this season, with their first game under Burchett scheduled for tonight against McCreary Central.
