Advocate-area district tournament pairings
The basketball postseason is almost upon us, with the regular season wrapping up this week and district tournament play beginning next week, and the tournament schedules are set for the three districts that include Advocate-area teams.
The only significant deviation from form is in the 45th District, where the Kentucky School for the Deaf girls will participate in the postseason for the first time since 2006 and where the order of games has been changed.
The games between the Nos. 2 and 3 seeds have been moved up to Monday, Feb. 20, and the games between the 4 and 5 seeds are pushed back to Tuesday, Feb. 21. This was done as a concession to KSD, whose campus will be closed on Feb. 20 for Presidents’ Day.
It means that a No. 4 or 5 seed will have to win three games in four days to win the tournament, while a 1 seed will have to win twice in three days and a 2 or 3 seed will have to win twice in five days.
It’s an unusual situation, brought about because the postseason is beginning a week earlier than usual. But it’s not unreasonable in this case to accommodate KSD, where bringing the players in a day before they would normally return from their weekend trips home creates much more of a logistical problem than it would at other schools.
Here are the schedules for the 45th, 46th and 47th districts, with seeds in parentheses, as well as the anticipated dates for the regional tournaments:
