12th Region Tournament pairings

If you wait until the championship game to show up at either the boys or girls 12th Region Tournament, you’re probably going to miss some pretty interesting basketball. Two of the top teams in each tournament drew into the same bracket when pairings were drawn today.

That means that the Lincoln County and Mercer County girls, the top two teams in the region in the final regular-season Litkenhous Ratings, and the Southwestern and Pulaski County boys, who are rated 1-3 and were considered 1-2 at the start of the season, could meet in the semifinals. And there could be some pretty compelling first-round matchups along the way as well.

The winners in Saturday’s draws include the Danville girls, who are among the hottest teams in the girls regional. Their first-round game in a manageable lower bracket is against a Wayne County team they have already beaten.

Another winner is the East Jessamine boys, the region’s winningest boys team, which finds itself in an upper bracket with two teams with losing records and one that’s just one game over .500.
