Irvine shares regional coach of the year award

Outgoing Burgin coach Don Irvine has been voted the 12th Region boys co-coach of the year by the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches.

Irvine announced his plans to retire before this season, ending a 32-year coaching career that included 21 years as a head coach at Burgin, Augusta and McLean County. He led Burgin to a 24-9 record, the school’s winningest season on record since 1941.

He shares the award with East Jessamine coach Chris O’Bryan, whose Jaguars are the region’s winningest team this season. They improved to 28-4 with a win tonight over Wayne County in the first round of the 12th Region Tournament.

East Jessamine forward Cody Collins has been voted the 12th Region boys player of the year.

Irvine, O’Bryan and Collins will receive their awards March 16 at the Boys Sweet Sixteen. Click here for the full list of boys regional winners.
