Back to the soccer semis
It had never happened before last year, but now it’s two years in a row that an Advocate-area team has reached the semifinals of the state soccer tournaments.
The Danville boys earned their first trip to the final four in Georgetown by coming from behind to defeat Franklin County 3-2 in their sectional final Thursday. The Admirals are one of three teams in the semifinals that were not ranked in the final statewide coaches poll, along with Covington Catholic and Greenwood. Two-time defending champion St. Xavier, which ended the regular season at No. 2, is also in the field.
Danville will play Greenwood in the second of the two boys semifinals Wednesday at Toyota Stadium, following the game between St. Xavier and Covington Catholic. The two winners will play Saturday night.
Boyle County’s girls came close to making it a Danville-area double, but the Lady Rebels lost their sectional final to Lexington Catholic 2-1.
