Boyle softball tourney returns
Another strong field that includes four local teams will gather for the Boyle County Invitational softball tournament today and Saturday.
Eleven teams are in the field for this year’s tournament, divided into three pools. No. 18 Garrard County headlines one pool, Boyle County and Casey County square off in the first game of another, both at Millennium Park, while Danville hosts its own pool at Troy Trumbo Field.
Teams will be seeded based on their pool results in the single-elimination championship round, which begins late Saturday morning and concludes with the title game, which is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
The BCI is one of two reasonably reliable rain magnets on the annual spring sports schedule (the Central Kentucky Conference track meet is the other), with rain seemingly following the tournament no matter where it falls on the schedule.
And of course, rain is forecast for today and tonight. If this evening’s games are rained out, pool play will be canceled and the teams will play a double-elimination tournament Saturday. If the rain stays away, here’s the full schedule:
