Mr. Clean Mr. Clean!
The Mr. Clean jingle means much more to me now! If you read my last post, I talked about an audition in Cincinnati that was for a Mr. Clean print job. I also said that I thought I didn’t get it since I hadn’t heard back yet. Ends up, I did book the job! Thankfully, this job came during my Spring break so I didn’t have to miss class at all! I drove up the morning of the 9thand meet the production company at Skyline Chili. I had spoke witha sweet lady from the crew named Summer on the phone, but as I sat at the restaurant waiting on them to arrive my nerves began to build a little. I don’t know that I was really nervous, but I think this happened simply because I didn’t know what to expect. I didn’t even know what the people looked like that I was looking for! I assumed a group of about 10 people that walked in was them because they had some equipment with them. I eventually built the guts up to ask if they were who I thought they were, and sure enough it was them! So, we sat down to talk and to try the famousChili! Skyline Chili serves free oyster crackers while you wait for your food. Sounds crazy, but they were oh so good and a little addicting! Turns out this crew was one of the nicest crews I’ve ever worked with. They were always cracking jokes, and the Godiva chocolate that was brought for us during the shoot helped give them even more brownie points.
After lunch we headed over to another Chili restaurant (there are like a million in Cincinnati!!!) called Camp Washington Chili Company to break down to business. After the shoot was a wrap, they suggested that I go to the Cincinnatian to stay in the unused hotel room they booked for the night so I could be ready to work at 7am the next morning. They only booked the room so they could use the bathroom to show Mr. Clean bathroom cleaning supplies in our shoot the next day. I quickly took them up on their offer to save gas and time. The Cincinnatian was beautiful! It was designed amazingly without a single detail being overlooked. My favorite part was the huge canopy bed. There was even absolutely astonishing peanut butter tasting cookies set out by the bed and a paper that told me the weather forecast for the next day! It was such a fancy hotel! After a long day of work, I decided to put my things in the hotel and walk down to Mr. Sushi to grab dinner. Although the work day wasn’t strenuous at all, I was asleep by 10:30!
The next morning brought 2 more shoots at a salon and in the bathroom of the hotel. Throughout all of the shots, I was to show the product as if I was cleaning the bathtub, salon mirror, or the table at the restaurant. I promise, this sounds much easier than what it really is. I was amazed with the details that went into making sure the lighting was just right, the product was shown properly, and even how specific the mess on the table had to be that I was to pretend clean up. They wanted everything to appear as natural and real as possible. You may or may not recognize me in final print work because the most that was ever shown of my face was my chin. It was all about the hands and the product. It will published in magazines that go to professional places who’d be interested in buying professional products.
One of my favorite parts of the trip was visiting the big city. When I’m in a big city I feel like I’m in a different world while walking downtown. I think I like big cities so much just because it is like it’s own community. Although I may not know everyone I see, it’s so neat just to be able to walk to dinner or the grocery store in the midst of the skyscrapers. Nonetheless, I still love the bluegrass hills of Kentucky and definitely the family relationship that exists in the people of Danville. Although I hope there are many trips to cities similar to this one, I wouldn’t change my hospitable home right here in central KY for the world!

Maria, my father wrote the original Mr. Clean jingle back in 1957 for use in 1958. He passed away in 2007, but everytime we hear the jingle we think of him.
That’s a very interesting point. I was a model and now I always connect the ads with the cities I have seen.
Isn’t it great how many places modeling can take you? I wouldn’t have been able to travel many places without it!
That is so cool! Thank you so much for sharing that with me! That’s great that they still use the same little jingle! I’m sorry for your lose, but I’m sure he was such a great man. Hope you have a blessed week!
