About the blog

Extra Credit is a blog started by Jonathan Kleppinger, the education reporter for The Jessamine Journal, in August 2012 with the goal of expanding the paper’s coverage of education in the county and creating an interactive space for dialogue on the issues. Jonathan has been at The Journal since October 2009 and also serves as the paper’s news designer and features editor.

Most news coverage of education in the county is related to the Jessamine County Board of Education and the 12 public schools, but there are many other facets of education in the county, including but not limited to Asbury University, Asbury Theological Seminary, preschools, private schools, home-schooling, adult education and many residents who attend primary, secondary or postsecondary institutions outside the county. Readers are encouraged to let us know about any education issues or features that may be newsworthy.

You can contact Jonathan by phone at 859-885-5381, ext. 244, by e-mail at jkleppinger@jessaminejournal.com or in person at the office at 507 N. Main St. in Nicholasville. You can follow education news on Twitter by following and tweeting at @thejj_ed. The Jessamine Journal is also on Facebook, and full education-news articles are available at www.centralkynews.com/jessaminejournal/news/education.
