Rural Heritage Festival could be over

This may have been the last year for the Rural Heritage Festival, previously known as the Tobacco Festival. The board of the festival has dissolved, citing a lack of volunteers and the bad economy.

Mayor Rinthen said the city and county are hoping to work together to form a joint committee, possibly of three nominees from the city and three from the county, who will take up the festival and keep it going.

More to come here and in tomorrow’s paper.
