A lovely weekend in Kraków

I arrived back in Bratislava this morning (bright and early at 7 a.m.) with my friend and colleague Ella. We took the night train back (just as we did on the way there), so we were exhausted upon arrival.

This time, we shared a car with a nun, which was awesome. As Ella said, “Well, we don’t have to worry about anybody taking our stuff.”

Our weekend was jammed packed with a lot of activity, including a visit to the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp, the Wieliczka Salt Mine, Wawel Castle, and several trips to a delicious cupcake cafe.

We also stayed at a cozy hostel (Travellers Inn), where we enjoyed a private room, a nice kitchen, and pleasant company among fellow travelers.

For now, though, I am exhausted and have grading to do, so I’m going to keep this post short. I will do a longer post later this week, complete with photos.

  1. Aunt* Jamie

Sounds wonderful–how exciting that you can wander around Europe on the weekends!

  2. Mikel Ann Perkowski

Reading of your time in Poland was amazing. I felt like you took me there with you. I can’t wait to make my own visit. You are great writer and I look forward to reading more from you.

  3. Valarie Picelle (Perkowski)

Hi Katie! I am your dad’s cousin, Valarie. I haven’t seen your dad in a long time but do see and talk with Mikelann. I think Mikelann has told you about me meeting another Perkowski while my husband was racing. Don’t know if he is related but his name is Luke Perkowski and he is from a town called Bialystok. I guess his grandfather still lives there. He said his grandfather is the only Perkowski left as there were only two children and both moved to the states. I seem to remember him saying (at the track) that Perkowski is a pretty common name in Poland. My sister in-law Gail is suppose to be sending me info on our grandparents, your great grandparents. When I get it I will email it to you.
Sounds as if you are having a great time! When I graduated from high school I worked for a travel agency and got to travel quite a bit. I still treasure the memories!
Enjoy yourself and stay safe ! Valarie
