Members of the senior class and the entire student body at George Rogers Clark haven’t forgotten senior Mykal Barnes and honored him during the school’s homecoming festivities Friday night at Cardinal Stadium.
Barnes, who passed away from injuries sustained in an automobile accident last month, was an honorary member of the school’s homecoming court. Following the ceremonies at halftime, someone placed a homecoming crown at midfield on the 50-yard line in memory of Barnes.
It was a kind gesture captured by Sun sports photographer Bill Thiry and one of those touching moments. The image is on the Sun’s Web site at www.winchestersun.com.
On a side note, Barnes wore the No. 8 jersey in his career at Clark and the number was prominent in Kentucky’s loss to Florida Saturday night in Gainesville.
Florida’s Trey Burton scored a school-record six touchdowns and Chris Matthews had both of Kentucky’s scores in the contest. Burton and Matthews wear the No. 8 jersey.
