Catching up with Vinny Zollo

George Rogers Clark senior and boys basketball standout Vinny Zollo wasn’t sure if he would return to the soccer field this season.
Zollo, ranked one to the top players in the state, who has been on a whirlwind AAU Tour with the Indiana Elite squad, decided to play for the Cardinals at goal keeper and forward after consulting with various coaches while playing basketball during the summer break.
“It’s going to be an advantage for me,” Zollo said Wednesday. “I talked to a lot of college coaches and they told me that they like guys who play other sports. I love soccer and it’s always been a game that I love. To be honest, if I put more time into it, I could be a really good player. I’m excited about it. We have a new coach, and a new system and it should be a lot of fun.”
In between soccer practice, Zollo has been working with young campers at the Scott Humphrey basketball camp this week at Norton Gymnasium.
Zollo has been playing soccer since he was “real small” and likes the time away from the hardwood.
“It’s refreshing to do something else and then go into the basketball season refreshed and ready to go,” he said.
