While sitting here in the press box before the Kentucky-Central Michigan game, just had a flashback.
On Aug. 30, 2001, I took my first plane ride from Louisville to Detroit to attend Eastern Kentucky’s opener against Central Michigan in Mount Pleasant. I remember the flight well and was taking in all the sights. I remember how relaxed security was and how the cockpit door was open for my flights to and from Detroit.
That occurred on Aug. 30, 2001. It was 12 days later when our nation was attacked in the worse terror attack on our own soil.
I remember thinking back to that plane ride those two days of August of 2001 and had a hard time sleeping for more than a month.
Today, Central Michigan is playing Kentucky at Commonwealth Stadium, one day before the 10th anniversary of the attacks.
This entire weekend I have been thinking about those fellow American citizens who lost their lives that day. May God bless America.
