I have Cardinal fever. I guess it rubs off.
I cover the George Rogers Clark Cardinals. Louisville’s nickname is Cardinals. When Kentucky isn’t playing, I keep up with Louisville. Former Clark standout Preston Knowles is a sophomore at Louisville, giving me one more reason to cheer on the Louisville Cardinals.
But here lately, I have found a new set of birds to root for and they are huge underdogs.
The Arizona Cardinals had never won a playoff game until this year, winning in each of the first two rounds to advance to the NFC Championship game this weekend.
I just like the fact that a new team is making noise in the playoffs. Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Baltimore have all been there before. They also have won titles recently.
Was really pulling for the Tennessee Titans, but we’ll cheer on the Cards.
No only is Arizona’s mascot familiar to me, but I like Arizona quarterback Kurt Warner. He’s my age and he’s a winner. Warner has been through thick and thin in his career and is one of the most humble quarterbacks in the league. I didn’t say he was the best quarterback, but he has the best personality.
Would be interesting, however, is if the Steelers and Cardinals reach the playoffs. Mike Tomlin and Ken Whisenhunt each were asisstants under former Pittsburgh coach Bill Cowher.
