UK Basketball: Orton sent down to D-League

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — The Orlando Magic are sending first-round pick Daniel Orton to the NBA Development League to get some playing time.
The Magic assigned Orton on Wednesday to the team’s affiliate in Rio Rancho, N.M. Orlando is playing seven of its next eight games on the road, and the team felt it would be a good time for Orton to see some game action.
The 6-foot-10, 255-pound center was the 29th overall pick in the NBA draft after playing only one season at Kentucky. The 19-year-old missed all of training camp with knee injuries, and he’s not expected to see much playing time this season behind All-Star center Dwight Howard and reliable backup Marcin Gortat.
The Magic also are being patient with Orton’s development and are approaching him as a long-term project.
