UK Football: QB race almost over

After reviewing tape from Saturday’s scrimmage, Kentucky coach Joker Phillips and his staff could be closer to naming a starter at quarterback.
Phillips said Mike Hartline, Morgan Newton and Ryan Mossakowski managed the game – one of two components Phillips is looking for in a starting quarterback.
“We want a quarterback who can win the game now for us,” the Kentucky coach said. “We have to go figure out who gives us the best chance to win the game. Hopefully, we can go figure that out after watching the video. They all did some good things.”
Phillips could have a starter in place as early as Tuesday.

“We have to go back and look at this film and it might shake its way out,” he said. “We might decide that we have to go with someone and try to go with the guy who is most consistent.”
Phillips added that Mossakoski is making a case for himself and has developed in a “salesman in the huddle,” while Newton is “doing some good things in the running game,” a trait he earned during his time in the pocket last season.”
